What credit score do I need to finance a vehicle?

Lenders review your full credit profile—including score, report, income, and debt—when determining auto loan terms. While higher credit scores often secure better rates, borrowers with less-than-perfect credit can still qualify. Adding a co-signer with good credit may improve your approval chances and loan terms.

What is APR, and how is it determined?

APR represents the yearly cost of borrowing, including interest and lender fees. It helps consumers compare loan offers on equal terms. Your APR depends on factors such as credit score, loan term, vehicle age, and market rates. A lower APR means paying less interest over the life of the loan.

Should I lease or buy my next vehicle?

Leasing typically provides lower monthly payments and allows frequent upgrades, but mileage limits apply and you do not own the vehicle. Buying builds equity and comes without mileage restrictions, though payments are generally higher. The best choice depends on your driving habits, budget, and long-term plans.

How do trade-ins affect my financing?

A trade-in's value reduces the amount you must finance, lowering monthly payments and total interest. Positive equity directly decreases your loan amount, while negative equity may be rolled into a new loan. Online valuation tools can help you estimate your vehicle’s worth before visiting the dealership.

Can I get pre-approved before visiting the dealership?

Pre-approval lets you know what loan amount and interest rate you qualify for before visiting the dealership. It helps set your budget and makes comparing offers easier. Multiple credit inquiries within a short time window are typically treated as a single inquiry.
